ABOUT THE ARTIST
Max Papart was born December 14, 1911 in Marseille, France. After studying at the Ecole de Breaux-Arts, in 1940 he decided to devote himself entirely to his painting. In 1945, following WWII, his works were shown in many exhibitions throughout France. Papart’s style evolved into non-figurative expressionism. Developing into a master of etching, he was appointed an Assistant Lecturer of Etching in Vincennes University in 1969. During this period, he illustrated numerous books and designed bronze medals for the French Mint.
Graphic works by Papart were created at leading ateliers in France including Atelier Dutrou; Pierre-Pichard; Maurice Felt; Grapholith and Gourdon for lithographs. The qualities of Papart’s art are logic, dignity and simplicity. Above all, they exhibit the property of being heir to the classical past and are distinctively and quintessentially French.
Max Papart, and his contributions to 20th century art, are known throughout the world and anyone should be happy and proud to own and enjoy the art of this great master.
