ABOUT THE ARTIST – Victor Vasarely is an Internationally Renowned artist .
Victor Vasarely was born in Pecs, Hungary in 1906 of French nationality, he studied art in Budapest and was influenced by the Bauhaus style of design and architecture. Victor Vasarely was a pioneer of optical art, creating dazzling illusions of depth and movement with geometric shapes and colors.
He moved to Paris in 1930 and worked as a graphic designer, experimenting with abstract patterns and optical effects in his paintings. He developed his own style of geometric abstraction, using grids, circles, squares, and triangles to create dynamic compositions that challenged the perception of the viewer.
Vasarely is the acknowledged creator of the Optical Art Movement. His innovations in color and optical illusion have had a major impact on all successive generations of artists. He called his art “plastic alphabet”, a universal language of forms and colors that could be applied to any surface and medium, from paintings and sculptures to buildings and public spaces.
Vasarely has received numerous prestigious awards and honors and has created monumental sculptures and murals. Vasarely’s works are in virtually every museum in the world that has a collection of contemporary art. Two museums in France are devoted exclusively to his work.
He founded the Vasarely Foundation in 1976, a museum and cultural center dedicated to his vision of a social art that was accessible to everyone.
